Go Ask Alice

I finished the book “Go Ask Alice” the second night I was reading it; I thought it was a really good book. It was probably one of the saddest books I’ve read and it really opened my mind up to the outcomes of drugs and alcohol. Her story was really emotional and she had a really hard life. She made bad decisions throughout the whole book. She ruins her life, and in the end dies. I think most of the mistakes she made was when she was high and she just wanted to get more drugs. If I was in her place I think I would do the same thing she would do. I understand that drugs took over her life and she didn’t know what she was doing. Love was also a really big theme in the book. If her family didn’t love her then she would make even worse decisions and she wouldn’t have anyone to go back to.
Friendship is also a big part in the book, she chooses bad friends and they influence her to get back into drugs. The first time she took a drug was on accident and I think if that didn’t happen then she wouldn’t get into drugs. She had a really good life and everything until she moved. I think she wrote her diary really well because it was so descriptive and I felt like I was there with her. I wonder if the book is exactly her diary or if some was written for him. I think this book is the only book I have ever gotten really into that was assigned for school. I really liked how we got to do a choice book. Even though this isn’t the book I put up for the list I really enjoyed reading it.
My favorite part of the book is probably when she goes back with her family and she loves her life. When she goes back with her family she swears that she would never do drugs again. While she was babysitting, she gets tricked and someone sneaks LCD into a piece of chocolate. She freaks out and goes crazy. I think this happens because she hadn’t had drugs in such a long time and when she does it has a bad effect on her. I believe if that didn’t happen to her, her life would be a lot easier. My worst favorite part in the book is when she goes to the mental hospital because of the drugs that she got tricked into taking. I didn’t think she should have been sent there and I was really happy when she got out of there. I also didn’t like how they told you she died but we never knew how. I know that the part wouldn’t be in the diary but at least have more information about it in the epilogue.
I really enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend that they should have the freshmen read it when they enter University. I’m surprised I read that book so fast, but its one of those books where you cant put it down because you want to know what is going to happen in the end.
